Lesson 7 — Accountability: Stop Lying to Yourself

Narrated word for word in a deep, unhurried voice.

Full script

Opening

Accountability can feel uncomfortable because it removes the story.

"I was going to..."

"I almost..."

"I wanted to..."

None of those are results.

Did you do it?

Yes or no?

That's accountability.

Own the Result

There are things outside your control.

Absolutely.

Bad timing.

Other people's decisions.

Unexpected problems.

But even when something isn't your fault, you still have to decide what you're going to do next.

That's ownership.

Excuses Can Be True

Here's something important.

An excuse can be completely true.

You may really be tired.

You may really be busy.

You may really have problems.

The question is:

Does that explanation change the action required?

Sometimes yes.

Sometimes no.

Be honest.

Score Yourself

At the end of each week, give yourself a score.

Not based on intention.

Execution.

Did I keep my standards?

Did I complete my priorities?

Did I train?

Did I make progress?

Where did I avoid something?

Get External Accountability

You can also use:

A coach.

A teammate.

A mentor.

A business partner.

A group.

But don't make somebody else responsible for your life.

Accountability support is helpful.

Ownership remains yours.

The Question I Want You to Ask

At the end of every day:

Did my actions today match the person I say I want to become?

That's a hard question.

But it's useful.

Your Assignment

Create a weekly accountability scorecard from 1–10 for:

Discipline.

Health.

Work/business.

Relationships.

Learning.

Execution.

Then answer:

Where am I making excuses?

And:

What will I do differently this week?

Close

Accountability protects your standards.

But life will eventually put those standards under pressure.

And that's where we'll go next.
